What this site does, and what it does not.

We aim at WCAG 2.1 AA. Below is what is actually implemented, and where we know we fall short. If something here is wrong, tell us and we will fix it.

Reader controls

The button at the bottom right of every page adjusts motion, text size, contrast and link underlining. Choices are remembered in your browser and are applied before the page paints, so nothing flickers. We do not track them.

Contrast

Every text and background pair on the site was measured. All clear WCAG AA - the tightest is 6.2:1 against a 4.5:1 requirement, and 11:1 in high-contrast mode.

Motion

Entrance animations follow your operating system's reduce-motion setting by default, and the panel can override it either way. Nothing on the site moves on a loop or auto-plays.

Keyboard

Every control is reachable by keyboard, focus is always visible, a skip-to-content link comes first, and dialogs close on Escape and return focus where they found it.

Structure

One h1 per page, headings in order, real landmarks, and tables that scroll inside their own container rather than forcing the page sideways on a phone.

Known gaps

01No independent audit. Everything above is our own testing, some of it automated. No external accessibility review has been done.
02No screen-reader testing with real users. We have followed the standards; we have not sat with someone who depends on a screen reader and watched them use it. That is a real difference and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
03The mathematics on the science page is rendered as text rather than MathML, which reads awkwardly aloud.
04No formal language-access provision. The site is English only.

If any part of this site is difficult to use, email us and say what happened. Accessibility problems are treated as defects, not requests.
